Harefield Transplant Appeal

Royal Brompton & Harefield Hospital Charity Appeal

Harefield Hospital is the UK’s largest heart and lung transplantation centre. Its pioneering Transplant Team performed the UK’s first combined heart and lung transplant in 1983 and the hospital continues to lead the way in cardiothoracic surgery today.

In 2015/16, the team performed 25 heart transplants, 49 lung transplants and implanted 49 artificial hearts, known as 'Left Ventricle Assist Devices' (LVADS), saving the lives of 123 people of all ages.

Bob's son, Nick, after having many open heart operations, is in Harefield Hospital awaiting a heart transplant. He has been there for four months so far, but could have to wait for a year, such is the shortage of donors. If our ride can persuade even one person to sign up for a heart transplant it will have been worthwhile.

If you wish to register for organ donation please CLICK HERE. It only takes a couple of minutes to register.

The Appeal is aiming to raise £500,000. With your generous help, the appeal will fund Organ Care Systems, which keep donated hearts and lungs viable for up to 4 times longer than using traditional methods. This means donated organs can come from hospitals further away, arrive in better condition and give medical staff longer to prepare for and perform life-saving surgery. It will dramatically increase the number of heart operations that can be carried out at Harefield Hospital.

When you enter the Harefield Transplant Appeal site, please make sure to click on the DONATE button just above the picture of Nick and Bob.
